Georgetown University Honors the Inspiring Class of 2026 at Commencement Ceremony

Georgetown University recently held its commencement ceremonies, each showcasing inspiring speakers. Among them were Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, former Secretary of State John Kerry, and Cindy McCain, head of the World Food Programme and widow of Senator John McCain.

The alumni who spoke to the graduates included James Farley Jr., CEO of Ford, and Essya Hanachi, a senior finance leader. They shared valuable insights about success and resilience.

Brady focused on overcoming doubt and the challenges he faced. He recounted his comeback during the intense 2017 Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons. “Don’t quit and don’t make excuses,” he stressed. “Every tough choice you make builds the path to your goals. Excuses only create barriers.”

At the School of Foreign Service’s ceremony, Kerry emphasized the importance of diplomacy and humility. He recalled his work with John McCain and the need to constantly strive for progress. “Some decisions you make might seem small, but they could be historic,” he pointed out. “What’s important is the persistence to stay engaged, even when it’s tough.”

The message to the Class of 2026 was clear: “Disturb the universe with your curiosity and courage.”
