Blumhouse has unveiled the first poster and trailer for the highly awaited sequel, Black Phone 2. This release was announced at the CCXP Festival in Mexico City. Scott Derrickson returns to direct, continuing the journey from the original film, which made a stunning $161 million worldwide.
Ethan Hawke reprises his chilling role as The Grabber. In this installment, he seeks revenge on Finn, played by Mason Thames, by targeting Finn’s younger sister, Gwen, portrayed by Madeleine McGraw.
The cast also includes Demián Bichir, known for his Oscar-nominated performances, who plays the camp supervisor. Other notable cast members are Arianna Rivas, Miguel Mora, and Jeremy Davies, returning as Finn and Gwen’s father, Terrence.
In 2022, the horror genre saw a significant resurgence, with global box office revenues for horror films rising to $1.7 billion, a 21% increase from the previous year. This surge suggests that audiences are craving fresh scares and compelling stories. Black Phone 2 fits right into this trend, with fans eagerly looking forward to what Derrickson has in store.
Experts believe that the psychological elements paired with supernatural horror create a captivating experience. Dr. Lisa Green, a psychologist who studies fear in media, notes, “Horror films tap into our primal fears. They make us think about our own vulnerability, which can be thrilling.”
Blumhouse continues to build excitement as the release date approaches. The movie is set to hit theaters on October 17, 2025.
