The Big Ten Conference is introducing a fresh take on volleyball with the Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge, set to launch in October 2025. This exciting event will include all 18 teams in the conference and will be powered by Discover, the official credit card of the Big Ten Conference.

Throughout October, specific matches will contribute to the Challenge. Each team will play five designated matches during the month, with the winner determined by who wins the most games.

For instance, Nebraska’s matches include key games against teams like Penn State and Wisconsin. Here’s the lineup:

• At Penn State (Oct. 3)
• Washington (Oct. 10)
• At Michigan State (Oct. 17)
• Northwestern (Oct. 24)
• At Wisconsin (Oct. 31)

Every Wednesday through Friday match during this period will count toward the Challenge. This new format aims to heighten the competition and engage fans.

Deciding the Winner:

In cases of a tie, the process is straightforward but thorough. Here’s how it works:

For two teams tied:

1. Head-to-head performance in Challenge matches
2. Winning percentages against common opponents (in Challenge matches)
3. Total sets won and played in Challenge matches
4. Total points won and played in Challenge matches
5. Finally, NCAA Women’s Volleyball RPI ranking will determine the winner if needed.

For three or more teams tied, the same general criteria apply, with the focus shifting to results among the tied group.
