Get Protected: Free Measles Vaccination Clinic This Saturday Hosted by Houston Health Department!

The Houston Health Department is hosting a free measles vaccination clinic this Saturday. If you’re eligible for TVFC and ASN, you can get vaccinated at the Sunnyside Health Center, located at 4410 Reed Road. The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As measles cases rise across the country, the department urges families to take advantage of this opportunity to protect themselves. Dr. David Persse, Houston’s chief medical officer, highlighted the seriousness of measles. “It’s one of the most contagious viruses,” he said. “It can lead to serious health issues, particularly for young children and those with weak immune systems.” Vaccination is the best defense against this virus, and it’s both safe and effective.

According to the CDC, children should receive two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The clinic will offer free MMR vaccinations to eligible individuals. Some high-risk groups may need both doses, while adults born after 1956 who haven’t been vaccinated should get at least one dose.

Dr. Persse emphasized the importance of timely vaccinations. “With outbreaks occurring in many areas, we want to protect our community from this highly contagious disease,” he explained.
