Belmont University Women’s Track & Field is gearing up for the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships on March 1 in Indianapolis. This two-day event will be held at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds and will showcase fierce competition, including teams like Indiana State and Illinois State.
Last year, the Bruins finished sixth, marking a strong performance with seven podium finishes and two school records broken. One athlete to watch is Alexa Fortman. She excelled last season, securing a third-place finish in the 800m. Fortman has continued her impressive form this season, regularly landing in the top ten across middle-distance events, including the 600m and 1000m.
Another standout is sophomore Jennifer Mims, who will compete in the 400m. She set a new personal record earlier this season and placed third at the Indoor Music City Challenge, a strong indication of her readiness for the championships. Freshman Sophie Nicholls, a distance runner, is also making waves this season with top-10 finishes in her latest races, scheduled to compete in both the 3,000m and 5,000m.
Coach Hannah Brookover speaks highly of Nicholls, noting her leadership skills and commitment to the team. “She works hard and loves to compete,” Brookover says. “We’ve focused on staying composed and ready for the challenges ahead.”
