Get Ready: BSNL Set to Launch 5G Network in Just 3-4 Months!

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India’s government-run telecom operator, is gearing up to roll out 5G. The company is currently working on expanding its 4G network, aiming to deploy 100,000 sites by June 2025. So far, BSNL has successfully set up over 75,000 sites, with more than 80,000 already in place, making significant strides toward this goal.

Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared that the plan is to have all 100,000 4G sites operational by mid-2025. After this milestone, BSNL will begin moving towards 5G, likely starting as early as June.

Beyond just hitting that target, BSNL plans to keep expanding its 4G network even after reaching 100,000 sites. They are expected to collaborate with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for further enhancements. While this expansion is important, experts note that 100,000 sites may still fall short in covering India’s vast geography.

As for 5G, BSNL is looking to start testing standalone 5G in Delhi. They also have an option to upgrade existing 4G sites to provide non-standalone 5G with a simple software update, thanks to TCS’s support.

What sets BSNL apart is its commitment to using indigenous technology for its 4G rollout. Unlike other telecom companies that partnered with foreign firms, BSNL is required to focus on domestic technology for security and self-reliance reasons.

According to a recent report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the demand for mobile data has skyrocketed, reflecting a growing need for better connectivity. In 2022, mobile data consumption reached 19.4 exabytes, signifying the urgency for expanded networks like BSNL’s.

As public interest in BSNL’s plans grows, customers and tech enthusiasts are keenly discussing the potential impact of these advancements on the telecom landscape. Social media platforms are buzzing with excitement, with many users expressing hope that enhanced connectivity will improve both urban and rural internet access.
