MEDFORD, MA (March 4, 2025) — The Tufts University men’s tennis team kicked off its spring season with a strong performance, defeating No. 25 Babson College 7-0. Despite missing some players, the team showed impressive depth.

This depth has been a hallmark for coach Karl Gregor and the Jumbos in recent years. Currently ranked No. 3, the team aims for its first NCAA title after reaching the NCAA quarterfinals in the last three seasons.
Last fall, Tufts excelled at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals, showcasing their doubles prowess with three teams reaching the semifinals. In singles, Vuk Vuksanovic emerged as the New England regional champion. With a mix of experience and talent, the Jumbos are set for a stellar spring season.
Vuksanovic started the spring with a strong 8-1 record after a quick win against Babson, suggesting he will remain in the No. 1 spot. Last season, he achieved 14 wins at this position.
Junior Javier Gonzalez also had a remarkable sophomore year, leading the team with 20 total victories and an impressive 17 wins at No. 2. He’s currently 3-1 this spring and shines in doubles with a 5-1 record. Expect him to play a crucial role again this season.
Classmate Alex Ganchev, fresh off his ITA Cup championship win in doubles with Sacha Maes, aims to make a significant impact. Despite struggles with injuries last season, Ganchev pulled off key wins and is anticipated to be a key player again.
Senior Lachie Macintosh has been a top performer, notching 15 singles victories last year while excelling in doubles play. He won 19 of his 26 doubles matches, demonstrating his skill and consistency.
Senior Derin Acaroglu, who has had a standout career, added 22 doubles wins last season and is expected to team up with Macintosh again. Sophomore Garv Bahl, returning from injury, looked promising in his season debut at No. 3 singles and is a valuable addition to the lineup.
Junior Andrej Djokic brings back a strong 15-4 record from last season and has already secured a victory this spring. Sacha Maes, known for his doubles success, achieved a team-high 24 doubles wins last year, including an impressive 15-3 record at No. 3. He and Ganchev are currently ranked No. 1 nationally in doubles.
First-year player Stavros Mastrogamvrakis demonstrated his potential in the fall and is set to contribute in both singles and doubles. Fellow sophomores Takehiro Shuda and newcomer Nico Tremblay are also players to watch. Tremblay performed well at the ITA Regionals, while Shuda aims to build on his initial success.
In addition, first-years Bhavan Balusu, Eren Cheung, and Andrey Ignatyev will look to gain valuable experience this season, while sophomore Davide Mirza hopes to secure his spot in the lineup.
Overall, the Tufts Jumbos are poised for an exciting season as they aim for victory.
