HAMMOND, La. – This Saturday, the Southeastern Louisiana University men’s and women’s track & field teams will split up for competitions. One group heads to the East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Fla., while the other goes to the Warhawk Classic in Monroe, La.
This weekend marks an important time for the teams as they prepare for the Southland Conference Track & Field Championships in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The squad returns from a strong showing at the LSU Alumni Gold meet. Onyah Favour will be at the East Coast Relays, competing in the 400-meter dash. She recently secured the fastest time in the Southland with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 23.26 seconds. Alongside her teammates — Breanna Becerra, Miriam Kauer, and Zoe Wilson — they also set a school record in the 4×400-meter relay, finishing in 3:40.29. This time ranks third among all Southland Conference relay teams this season.
For the men, Donald Butler achieved a personal best in the high jump, soaring to 2.11 meters (6’11”) and placing fifth at LSU. This mark is among the top five for the Southland this season. Gerrit Visser and Josh-Ty Brown also had solid performances, with Visser throwing the hammer 60.14 meters (197’3″) and Brown achieving 17.12 meters (56’2″) in shot put.
Both teams are looking to improve their personal records at the Warhawk Classic before heading to the championships.
In the world of sports, funding can often be a hot topic. The Southeastern track and field program encourages fans to support their efforts by joining the Podium Club or the S Club, which is exclusive to former Southeastern letter winners. Membership fees help with the program’s resources and needs.
