If you think Apple TV+ only features Severance, think again! They’re branching out into more exciting sci-fi territory. One project we’re eagerly anticipating is the adaptation of Martha Wells’ Murderbot Diaries. The first look at Murderbot has arrived, and it stars Alexander Skarsgård.
According to Apple TV+, Murderbot is a “comedic thriller,” a fitting description for the source material. Skarsgård plays a unique character: a security robot that can hack itself. This construct is torn between its horror of human emotions and its attachment to the people it protects. As it tackles a dangerous mission, all it really wants is to relax and binge-watch futuristic soap operas while figuring out its role in a complicated universe.
This series is brought to life by Chris and Paul Weitz, known for works like About a Boy and Mozart in the Jungle. Skarsgård is not just the lead; he’s also an executive producer. The cast includes other talented actors like Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, and Sabrina Wu. The Murderbot Diaries series has seven parts, beginning with All Systems Red in 2017 and the latest entry, System Collapse, released in 2023.
Mark your calendars! Murderbot premieres on May 16 with two episodes on Apple TV+. The series will consist of ten episodes, with new ones airing weekly until July 11. Are you excited to see how the stories from the books will translate to the screen?
