This October marks ten years since Titanfall 2 hit the shelves, yet fans are still waiting for a proper sequel. Instead, they got Apex Legends, a battle royale spin-off that didn’t include the giant mechs fans loved. Now, there’s hope on the horizon: a “spiritual successor” is in the works at 1047 Games, a studio with a better reputation than EA.
Tom Henderson from Insider-Gaming shared that he has seen early footage of 1047’s new project, Empulse. From what he describes, it will feel familiar to Titanfall fans. The game includes wall running, grappling hooks, and even piloting giant mechs in a team deathmatch mode. Players can find mechs scattered around the map, adding an exciting twist to gameplay.
CEO Ian Proulx mentioned earlier this year that a small team at 1047 is focused on this new movement shooter alongside Splitgate. “If you’re a fan of games like Titanfall or Black Ops 3, we would love to hear from you,” he said. This project hopes to capture the essence of those beloved games and bring something fresh to the table.
However, there’s caution among fans. Proulx has voiced his desire for Titanfall 3 before, especially during his appearance at Summer Games Fest, where he went as far as to wear a “MAKE FPS GREAT AGAIN” hat. This playful gesture might have been more about garnering attention, as Splitgate has faced its own struggles since launch.
Despite the ups and downs, there’s potential in Empulse. The game could resonate with fans looking for something new yet familiar. Whether it becomes a hit or a missed opportunity remains to be seen.
Recent trends show that gamers are eager for innovation in the first-person shooter genre. According to a survey by Newzoo, 70% of players express a desire for unique gameplay mechanics rather than just more content. The success of titles like Valorant demonstrates that freshness attracts interest.
With a history of highs and lows in the gaming world, fans are hopeful. Will Empulse be the game that fulfills the long-awaited desire for a proper Titanfall sequel, or will it become another tale of what could have been? Only time will tell.
