Get Ready for New Traffic Patterns on University Avenue: What You Need to Know!

Lafayette, LA – The Lafayette Consolidated Government is making important updates to University Avenue as part of the University Avenue Corridor Project.

Starting Wednesday, July 23, you’ll notice nightly lane closures on University Avenue between Cameron Street and I-10. These closures are necessary for necessary construction work, including paving and striping, as they move into the next phase.

Over the next three to four weeks, drivers will encounter a new traffic setup. This means that left turns will be restricted in certain areas being worked on. Daytime lane closures will still be in place during this construction phase.

The work on University Avenue will continue until Spring 2026. While these changes can be inconvenient, they’re essential for improving safety and efficiency along the corridor. Ultimately, the goal is to make University Avenue more accessible for both motorists and pedestrians, creating a welcoming gateway into Lafayette.

Experts in urban development emphasize that such projects can significantly enhance community connections and safety. According to a recent survey by the Urban Institute, better-designed roadways can reduce accidents and improve community engagement.

Residents and local commuters are encouraged to stay aware of the changes, follow all signs, and plan for extra travel time. Your patience during this transformation will help create a safer, more vibrant Lafayette.
