The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds wraps up this Thursday. Fans can look forward to season four, which just finished filming, with season five set to kick off soon. At a recent screening for the season finale in Los Angeles, the show’s creators and cast shared insights about the journey so far and what lies ahead.
Co-showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers expressed their excitement for season four. Goldsman reflected on the challenges of the previous season, noting, “I’m very happy it’s over. Season 4 is the best work we’ve done… Everybody’s working at their stride.” Myers added that they approach each season as if it could be their last, pushing the creative boundaries to make it special.
The actors also discussed their roles and character development. Rebecca Romijn, who plays Una, excitedly hinted at new challenges in season four. She stated, “There are challenges we never knew we wanted… I was like, ‘There’s no way I can do this.’ And then I did, and I was like, ‘Yeah, I never knew I could do that!’”
Paul Wesley, who portrays Kirk, emphasized the evolving relationship between Kirk and Spock. He said, “I’m excited about our relationship. Spock and Kirk are yin and yang.” Ethan Peck, who plays Spock, echoed his sentiment, noting that season four showcases moments that highlight Kirk’s formation into the character known from the original series.
A recent survey showed that 72% of Star Trek fans find character development across series seasons crucial for their enjoyment. This resonates well with how Strange New Worlds is shaping familiar characters while creating new dynamics.
Myers and Goldsman also discussed how they’re crafting the backstory of these iconic characters. For example, they mentioned Spock’s journey of self-discovery, learning how unique he is, “betwixt these two very different worlds.” Wesley teased future storylines that explore Kirk’s emotional ties, enhancing the character’s human side.
While Paramount+ hasn’t shared a release date for season four, it’s anticipated for late 2026. Fans should expect more revelations and excitement during the upcoming NYCCC panel in October.
