Western Carolina Football Spring Practice Kicks Off
Western Carolina University’s football team is back on the field as spring practice resumes. After a short break, the Catamounts are gearing up for an exciting set of sessions this week. They’ll hold four practices, including two in helmets and shoulder pads, and two fully padded ones at E.J. Whitmire Stadium.
This week marks the team’s first practices since March. All practices are open to the public—you can come and watch, but please stay in the stadium seats and don’t go to the field. Note that some areas of the stadium are closed for construction, including the upper grandstands on the west side.
If you’re a fan looking forward to the season, ticket renewals for returning season ticket holders start on March 16. You’ll have the chance to secure your spot for WCU’s six-game home schedule. The priority window for renewing tickets lasts until March 22, and they go on sale to the general public on March 23. Renewals need to be completed by May 29, or seats might be released for new buyers.
Did you know that Western Carolina averaged nearly 11,000 fans per game in 2025? That’s among the highest in the Southern Conference and ranks 20th nationwide in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. This shows just how much support the team has from the community.
This season, fans can look forward to some exciting upgrades, including a new press box, updated stadium lighting, and a state-of-the-art videoboard. The “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band will also be more visible, moving to the east side of the stadium. It aims to create an even better atmosphere on game days.
