The upcoming comet, C/2025 R3, is stirring excitement among space lovers and astronomers. Discovered on September 8, 2025, by the Pan-STARRS project in Hawaii, it caught the attention of many right away. Astronomers quickly confirmed its orbit with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. This comet is on a path that could lead to a remarkable view as it gets closer to the Sun.
On April 20, 2026, C/2025 R3 will be about 47.4 million miles from the Sun and will pass 44 million miles from Earth a week later on April 27. This distance places it between Mercury and Venus, which could make for a great viewing opportunity.
This comet has an interesting orbit, tilted at an angle of 124.7° to the solar plane. It appears to come from the Oort Cloud, a group of icy bodies at the edge of our solar system. This is its first journey into the inner solar system, making it unpredictable. During its closest approach, C/2025 R3 is expected to shine at a magnitude of 3.3.
