Get Ready for the 2027 Winter Classic: Mammoth vs. Avalanche Set to Thrill in Salt Lake City!

The Winter Classic is heading to Utah!

The Utah Mammoth will host the 2027 Discover NHL Winter Classic against the Colorado Avalanche at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. The date for this exciting event will be announced soon.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman expressed his enthusiasm: “We couldn’t be more thrilled. Three years ago, when this team was just a dream, no one would have believed we would be here today. The support from our fans and the community has been amazing.”

This event marks a significant milestone for the Mammoth, which became an NHL franchise in April 2024.

Mammoth forward Logan Cooley shared his excitement: “Growing up playing on outdoor rinks, the Winter Classic was always a dream. Having the opportunity to play in Utah, with our fans behind us, is incredible.”

Since launching, the Mammoth has made impressive strides. They acquired the hockey assets of the Arizona Coyotes, built a temporary practice facility, and renovated Delta Center. Now, they are ready for their biggest event yet at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

This stadium is not just a venue; it’s historic. It hosted the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics and can seat over 54,000 fans.

Ryan Smith, one of the Mammoth’s co-owners, believes the stadium will provide a unique experience. “The setup will allow everyone to truly enjoy the game. This event is about celebrating hockey and sharing that passion with our community.”

A recent survey showed that interest in hockey is on the rise in Utah, with many residents eager to attend events like the Winter Classic. As the sport continues to grow, it brings a fresh energy to the community.

Excitement is building, as fans and players alike prepare for this landmark event that promises not just a game but a celebration of hockey culture in Utah.
