Get Ready for the ‘Death Stranding’ Animated Series by Hideo Kojima Coming to Disney+: Everything You Need to Know!

Death Stranding fans, get ready for exciting news! Hideo Kojima is expanding his famous video game world with an animated series called Death Stranding Isolations, which is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2027.

Kojima made this surprise announcement at Disney’s Asia Pacific originals content showcase in Hong Kong. The original game, launched in 2019, quickly became a fan favorite, blending impressive storytelling with stunning visuals. It featured famous actors like Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen, adding to its cinematic quality. Just this past June, the sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was released for PlayStation 5, and there are also plans for a feature film from A24.

Kojima, who will be the executive producer for the animated series, shared the stage with director Takayuki Sano. New concept art by talented artist Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his work on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, was also unveiled.

Kojima expressed his excitement about the series, stating it would be “pretty mind-blowing.” He aims to reach fans who may not play video games, sharing the intricate world of Death Stranding through anime. He mentioned that animation allows for creative storytelling in ways that live action might not capture.

So, why partner with Disney? Kojima has long admired the company and has collaborated with them on projects like the 2023 documentary Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds. Disney approached him during that collaboration.

The series will use traditional hand-drawn animation, crafted by E&H Production, a well-regarded animation studio in Japan. Disney+ has hinted that this new tale will be separate from the games, following the journey of a young man and woman in a unique adventure.

As for the impact of this series, it can open discussions about the growing integration of video games into mainstream media. According to recent surveys, 70% of gamers have expressed interest in new media adaptations of their favorite games. This shows a strong desire for stories to cross different platforms. Kojima’s effort could set a new standard for future adaptations.

Fans are buzzing on social media, sharing their hopes for the series and their love for the original game. This growing anticipation underlines the potential for Death Stranding Isolations to build a wider fan base and showcase anime’s storytelling strengths.

As we wait for 2027, the excitement continues to grow for what Kojima and Disney have in store.
