Get Ready for the King of Pop: Michael Jackson Biopic Set to Release in Spring 2026!

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic is generating a lot of buzz. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael is set to release in theaters and IMAX on April 24, 2026. This film has faced several delays, with an earlier date planned for fall 2025. Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, will make his acting debut in the lead role, bringing the King of Pop’s life to the big screen.

The film is distributed by Lionsgate in the U.S., while Universal takes care of the global launch. Recently, it was reported that an extra 22 days of filming will happen in June. Initially, the movie was supposed to cover Michael’s entire life. However, it will now focus on his time with The Jacksons until his groundbreaking solo album, Off the Wall, was released in 1979.

One significant change to the film involves the third act, which was reworked after plans to dramatize an individual who accused Jackson of child sexual abuse. This individual had an agreement with Jackson’s estate that barred such dramatization.

Interestingly, sources say there’s a second film in the works that will cover Michael’s extensive career after 1979, highlighting his monumental success. For example, his 1982 record Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time. Tragically, Michael Jackson passed away in June 2009 at just 50 years old.

The cast of Michael also features Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Michael’s father, and Nia Long as his mother, Katherine. Other notable names include Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, and Derek Luke. The movie is produced by Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain, with a script written by John Logan.

Footage from the film debuted at CinemaCon last year, where it was announced that Michael will incorporate 30 songs. During this year’s CinemaCon, Lionsgate executive Adam Fogelson mentioned that there has been significant global excitement for the film and promised more news soon.

Public interest in this project reflects the ongoing fascination with Michael Jackson’s legacy. According to a recent survey, nearly 70% of fans expressed eagerness to see a biopic that dives deeper into his life beyond just music. As anticipation builds, both old and new fans are eager to discover untold stories about the iconic artist.
