Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently shared exciting news about the country’s first bullet train, which will run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. This train promises to cut travel time to just over two hours, a game-changer for commuters.
During a press event in Bhavnagar, Vaishnaw virtually launched three new trains: the Ayodhya Express, the Rewa-Pune Express, and the Jabalpur-Raipur Express. He emphasized that the bullet train project is on track and moving quickly.
The new high-speed rail line will stretch 508 kilometers and connect Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex with key cities in Gujarat like Vapi, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad. Trains will reach speeds of up to 320 km/h, transforming how people travel between these major hubs.
Vaishnaw also mentioned several upcoming projects in Gujarat, such as a new train link between Porbandar and Rajkot, a ₹135 crore coach maintenance facility at Ranavav, and a railway flyover in Porbandar. These projects underscore the government’s commitment to modernizing and expanding railway infrastructure.
The minister highlighted impressive statistics from the past 11 years, noting that India has added 34,000 km of new railway tracks—an average of nearly 12 km each day. He stressed the ongoing renovation of 1,300 railway stations, a monumental effort in the history of Indian Railways.
He noted that this modernization effort allows for train services to continue while upgrades take place, contrasting India’s approach with those of developed nations where redevelopment often halts operations entirely.
Vaishnaw also mentioned the rollout of new trains like the Vande Bharat Express, which features modern amenities. Passengers have reacted positively to these innovations. So far, eight Amrit Bharat trains have been launched, offering high-quality services at affordable prices.
In addition to developments in Gujarat, Vaishnaw pointed out that significant railway projects are also underway in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh through supportive regional governments.
