Xbox has made waves lately with its partnership with Meta VR. A recent thread on X (formerly Twitter) showcased images of an exciting new Xbox-branded Meta Quest headset. One user reacted enthusiastically, saying, “Holy heck this looks amazing!!!”
This isn’t entirely new news; we first reported on this collaboration back in 2024. Now, it looks like this headset will hit shelves as soon as June 24, priced at $399.
It’s not clear why it took so long for this device to launch. However, this news comes on the heels of Xbox teaming up with Asus to introduce handheld gaming devices like the Xbox Ally and Ally X. Interestingly, Xbox has set aside its own efforts for a first-party handheld console.
According to Gamesandwich.com, the Xbox Quest 3S will come with 128GB of memory and be similar to the standard Meta Quest but with Xbox branding. It also reportedly includes an Elite Strap, an Xbox wireless controller, and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, wasn’t always on board with the idea of a dedicated Xbox headset. Back in 2019, he noted, “nobody’s asking for VR” on Xbox. Yet, the gaming landscape has changed. With the rise of Xbox Cloud Gaming, many Xbox games now support VR on Meta Quest headsets through cloud streaming. This bundle essentially caters to Xbox fans wanting a VR experience with an Xbox twist.
The growth of Xbox’s “This is an Xbox” campaign showcases a shift. They’ve branched out from just consoles and PCs to mobile devices, TVs, VR headsets, and handhelds. Who knows? We might see an Xbox-branded smart fridge in the future!
With companies like Meta pioneering VR and Xbox enhancing its accessibility, this partnership could mark a significant evolution in gaming. As technology progresses, it will shape how we play and experience video games. For more on the latest gaming trends, check out reports from trusted sources like GamesIndustry.biz.
