Nearly four years ago, Spotify promised a HiFi tier that would offer lossless audio. According to a recent report from Bloomberg, this wait might finally be over. The company is finalizing the details, including important streaming rights.
Spotify may add $5 or $6 to its current $11.99 monthly fee for the new “Music Pro” tier. This follows two price hikes in recent years. With this plan, Spotify aims to offer more than just lossless audio.
Others like Apple Music include lossless streaming in their base price. Spotify’s Music Pro may stand out by offering features like song remixing and early ticket access for concerts, making it more appealing to fans.
Recently, Spotify signed important licensing deals with Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group. These agreements are aimed at securing streaming rights and possibly incorporating HiFi into their future plans. UMG has also hinted at exciting features for superfans, like early music releases and exclusive events.
While the launch of HiFi has taken time, Spotify seems close to bringing this upgrade to listeners in 2025.
