It’s a thrilling time for RPG fans as Square Enix releases Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake on the Switch and other platforms. This remake not only features stunning HD-2D graphics but also new storylines and locations that enhance the classic experience.

Recently, the first review came from the well-known Japanese site Famitsu. It scored 34 out of 40, with ratings of 9, 9, 8, and 8 from four critics. For comparison, the earlier remake of Dragon Quest III scored slightly higher at 35 out of 40 (8, 9, 9, 9).

Interestingly, despite the excitement, there’s no upgrade path for existing players to shift to this version on the Switch 2. Instead, it’s available as a separate Game-Key Card release.

The remake arrives at a time when nostalgia for old-school games is surging. According to a recent survey, 70% of gamers enjoy revisiting classic titles in new formats. This trend reflects a broader movement in gaming, where developers mix modern technology with beloved past experiences.
