Get to Know Ella Moser: Rising Star of the Class of 2026!

Meet Ella Moser ’26
Major: Biology
Minor: Art history
Hometown: Gainesville, Florida

Ella chose Washington and Lee University because of its strong academic environment and personal connections. Inspired by her mom’s experience there, Ella felt that the smaller class sizes and a focus on community would help her engage deeply in her studies. “W&L’s emphasis on honor and intellectual curiosity resonates with me,” she says.

Initially, Ella didn’t expect to study art since she’s pre-med. Yet, she took an art history class and fell in love with it. The liberal arts approach allowed her to blend her passion for art with her medical aspirations, prompting her to minor in art history.

Her favorite place on campus? “Anywhere with my best friends! Whether we’re at the Coop or studying in the library, it’s all about being together,” she says.

Ella values her friendships and the education she’s receiving. “The best part of being here is the lasting friendships and the quality education that prepares me for my future.”

Ella’s mentor is Melissa Kerin, her art history professor. “She’s been with me from my first class to an advanced seminar,” Ella notes. “Her passion for learning inspires me every day.”

Her favorite class, ARTH 141, focused on Buddhist art and changed her learning perspective. “It was a captivating introduction to a culture I had little knowledge of, and it really opened my eyes,” she explains.

When not studying, Ella enjoys exercise and outdoor activities. “The Chessie Trail is perfect for a walk, and the views are stunning,” she shares. She’s also active in service, volunteering with local patients and leading W&L’s Brain Exercise Initiative, a nonprofit that helps improve cognitive function in older adults.

One of her greatest accomplishments? “Adjusting to life here, making friends, and balancing academics,” she reflects. “It’s been a journey, but I’ve grown a lot.”

This past spring, Ella studied abroad in Barcelona and Madrid, focusing on modern art. “Seeing Salvador Dalí’s influence firsthand was incredible. It deepened my appreciation for art,” she says.

Ella feels well-prepared for medical school. “The small class sizes make a huge difference. Professors really connect with students here,” she points out. This intimate setup contrasts sharply with large lecture halls, providing a unique advantage for learning.

Ultimately, her family inspires her the most. “My parents’ work ethic and my sister’s journey in college motivate me daily. I strive to be the best version of myself,” she concludes.
