Get Your Hands on Rare ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and ‘Varsity Blues’ Memorabilia as James Van Der Beek Auctions Props to Support His Cancer Battle: ‘The Time Is Now!’

James Van Der Beek, known for his role as Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek, is facing a tough time with his health. After being diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal cancer last November, he’s taking steps to manage both his treatment and finances. To help cover his medical bills, he’s auctioning off some cherished memorabilia from his acting career.

Teaming up with Propstore, Van Der Beek is parting with items like his outfit from the Dawson’s Creek pilot and a notable necklace from the show. This auction, running from December 5 to 7, features items expected to fetch substantial amounts. For example, the necklace might sell for as much as $52,800. Van Der Beek mentioned, “While I’m nostalgic, it feels good to pass these items to those who supported my work over the years.”

In a recent interview, he expressed a mix of sentimentality and necessity: “I’ve been storing these treasures for years, and it’s clear that the time is now.” His outlook remains hopeful. “There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good,” he stated, showing strength as he navigates his illness.

This isn’t the first time he’s turned to auctioning for support. Earlier, he sold limited-edition autographed merchandise from Varsity Blues. His co-stars also came together for a table read of the Dawson’s Creek pilot, benefiting the organization F Cancer.

Cancer diagnoses like Van Der Beek’s are unfortunately common. In the U.S., about 1 in 24 people will develop colorectal cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. Recent studies have also highlighted the importance of early detection, showing that when caught early, the survival rate can be as high as 90%.

As Van Der Beek navigates this journey, fans and friends rally behind him, showcasing the strength of community support.
