Darren Owen, the founder of the Global Fight League (GFL), expressed his determination to move forward despite the recent cancellation of the organization’s launch events. The inaugural events, set for May 24-25, were called off due to an investor’s failure to meet financial obligations. Owen is optimistic and believes the events can be postponed to June 15-16, although venue changes may be needed.
In a statement to Ariel Helwani, Owen shared, "It’s been a frustrating week, but I believe there’s a solution in place." He highlighted the challenges of securing funding and hinted that California might not be the venue anymore.
Originally, GFL planned a spectacular two-day event at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium, featuring 31 fights and showcasing 42 UFC veterans along with nine former champions. The excitement surrounding the event and the promise of fresh competition had many in the MMA community buzzing.
