Glen Powell finally hosted Saturday Night Live, a moment four years in the making. During this time, a UPS driver who made deliveries to Powell’s home couldn’t believe he was really going to host.
To set the record straight, Powell invited the driver, Mitch, to join him on stage at Studio 8H.
It all started when Powell, famous for his role in Top Gun: Maverick, got the chance to host SNL’s Christmas episode in 2021. He celebrated the news with his family right after Mitch dropped off a package. They even snapped a photo together.
However, the pandemic pushed back the film’s release, and SNL’s executive producer, Lorne Michaels, told Powell something shocking: “Without Top Gun, no one will know who the f— you are.” Because of this, Powell lost his hosting opportunity.
“So, for four years, this UPS driver thought I was a liar,” Powell said. The real victory for him was proving he wasn’t just imagining it.
The reunion was made possible thanks to Powell’s sisters, who located Mitch’s phone number. “My sisters tracked him down because, let’s be honest, the women in my family are terrifying,” Powell joked. He brought Mitch to New York, making sure he felt reassured about the trip, even though Mitch initially thought it might be a prank.
They marked the occasion by recreating that well-loved photo from years ago. “I waited my whole life, plus four years, to be here,” Powell said with humor. “But the best things in life don’t happen overnight. And no one knows that better than UPS.”
