Superman has made a big splash at the box office, earning $217 million worldwide. This total includes $95 million from international markets and $122 million from the U.S. While these numbers are impressive, some experts suggest that attendance could be better. David A. Gross, a movie consultant, points out that Superman’s strong American identity might not resonate as well abroad right now.

James Gunn directed this latest take on the iconic superhero, with David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. In the movie, Superman strives to show he stands for good, despite facing backlash from the tech billionaire Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult. The film, which cost $225 million to make, signals a fresh start for Warner Bros.’ DC Universe. After recent flops like “The Flash” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” Gunn and Peter Safran have been tasked with revamping the franchise. Their vision includes a 10-year plan with new stories and characters, like Supergirl and Clayface.

To build a lasting franchise, appealing to global audiences is essential. The film performed best in the U.K., raking in $9.8 million, with Mexico and Brazil following closely behind. However, it struggled in China, earning only $6.6 million—much less than “Jurassic World Rebirth,” which debuted at $25 million in the same market.

In comparison, “Jurassic World Rebirth” brought in $68 million overseas, pushing its international total to $297 million. This exciting reboot has now crossed the $500 million mark globally, solidifying its success.

Another noteworthy mention is Apple’s “F1: The Movie,” which earned $38.5 million internationally, totaling $393 million worldwide. This film, featuring Brad Pitt, is now Apple’s highest-grossing movie.

On the Disney side, “Lilo & Stitch” is closing in on $1 billion. It has made a solid profit with $579 million from international markets. In contrast, Pixar’s “Elio” has struggled, likely ending its run with significant losses.
