Santiago Abascal, the leader of Spain’s Vox party, has been invited to a ceremony in Washington, D.C. Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, did not receive an invitation, according to her spokesperson. In contrast, the EU ambassador to Washington, Jovita Neliupšienė, will be attending the event at the Capitol.
Marine Le Pen, a prominent French far-right leader, and her protégé Jordan Bardella also were left off the guest list. A party official confirmed their absence, possibly because they have not publicly shown strong support for the president-elect.
