Golden Bears Shine at Home Tournament with Impressive Second-Place Finish – Kutztown University Athletics

The Kutztown University women’s golf team recently finished strong at the Kutztown Fall Invitational at Moselem Springs Golf Club, securing second place overall. Senior Gabby Cohen from Jeffersonville, N.Y., had a standout performance. She began with a career-best score of 81 and improved significantly in the final round, shooting 74. Her incredible effort included two birdies and ten pars, bringing her two-day total to 155. She fell just one shot short of first place, which went to Sara Veara from Shepherd.

Brooke Graham, a junior from Carlisle, also performed well, finishing third. She maintained consistent scores of 78 in both rounds, ending up with a total of 156. Her lone birdie came on the second hole, and she handled the rest of the course with skillful pacing.

Freshman Eva Moawad from Harrisburg earned a seventh-place finish, her second top 10 result of the season. She shot 83 on the first day and improved to an 87, showcasing her potential early in her college career.

Grace Klements, from Little Egg Harbor Township, took 14th place with a total score of 178 after shooting 91 in her final round. Rhi Stutz and Livia Andov each tied for 17th with scores of 182. Both continued to enhance their skills throughout the tournament, with Stutz registering a birdie in her final round.

The team’s total score was slightly behind Bloomsburg, who came from behind to win, ending with a score of 675. Kutztown finished with 684, followed by Jefferson with 702.

As the season progresses, interest in women’s golf is growing. According to a recent survey, participation rates in women’s collegiate golf are up by 15% over the last five years. This trend highlights not only the sport’s appeal but also the increased visibility of women’s athletics in general.

Kutztown’s next challenge is the Michael Corbett Fall Classic, hosted by Gannon University at Whispering Woods Golf Club. The team continues to build on their experiences, showcasing their dedication and passion for the game.
