Golden Eagles Soar to Victory: Dominant Mercy Rule Win Against Chaminade – Concordia University Irvine Athletics

HONOLULU, HI – The CUI softball team bounced back strongly by defeating Chaminade 16-6 in their third game of the series. After a split in yesterday’s doubleheader, the Golden Eagles clinched this win early with a mercy rule finish.

CUI 16, Chaminade 6 (Mercy Rule)

The Golden Eagles started off with a bang, scoring five runs in the first inning. Kaliya Yco kicked things off with a double, setting the stage for Shelby Pfeiler, who followed with a two-run single. Kayla Simpson then added another two-run hit, putting CUI ahead 5-0.

In the second inning, CUI tallied three more runs. Audrey Robles led off with a double, and Yco singled. Pfeiler scored Robles with another single, and Shelli Faulk brought in Yco with a sacrifice fly. Simpson kept the momentum going, scoring Pfeiler with another single, making it 8-0.

The third inning was even more explosive. Gabby Villa tripled down the right field line, followed by an RBI single from Jessica Im. Kayla Rodgers also tripled, adding another run, and Robles continued the rally with an RBI single. Yco and Pfeiler both contributed hits, while Caitlynn Campbell‘s single brought in another run. Noelani Ching made a significant impact with a three-run double, and Riley Bigley capped off the inning with an RBI single, pushing the score to 16-1.

Chaminade managed to score one run in the bottom of the third and five more in the fourth. However, the Golden Eagles’ commanding lead led the game to end by mercy rule.

Kailey Estes picked up the win, improving her record to 2-0 this season.

Next Game

CUI will take on Hawaii Pacific on Saturday, March 8th, at 2:00 PM (12:00 PM HT) in Honolulu.
