Good Morning! Your Essential Guide to February 15, 2025: Key News and Highlights

Filmmaker Vijay M. Rajan is looking for extras for his upcoming movie, “Dark Soul River.” This psychological thriller will be filmed in Champaign County in March.

The shoot will take place in Rantoul, where the local recreation department’s offices will be transformed into a prison setting. Rajan needs between 12 to 20 extras to portray death-penalty protesters and up to eight more for a grief-counseling session.

Participating comes with some perks. Extras will see their names in the credits, enjoy free meals, and Screen Actors Guild members will receive a paycheck. Plus, they’ll get a chance to see themselves on the big screen! Interested individuals can reach out to Rajan at darksoulriverfilm@gmail.com with “I’ll be an extra!” in the subject line.

Rantoul has a history of supporting the film industry, thanks to local venues like Flyover Film Studios.

“It’s become second nature for us,” said Recreation Director Luke Humphrey. He noted that the staff would adapt during the filming. “We can easily move to another area in the building or even work remotely. The pandemic taught us that flexibility is key.”

Humphrey, who grew up in Rantoul, expressed excitement about the village’s connection to filmmakers. “It’s fantastic to see,” he said. “We’re still waiting to meet any big stars, but who knows what the future holds?”
