In a generous move, FX Trader Cambio has donated $1.1 million to help rebuild the Clifton Boys’ Home, which was severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa. This act is a testament to the company’s commitment to support vulnerable communities.
Calecia Robinson, FX Trader Cambio’s Marketing Manager, emphasized the ongoing struggles many families face. “Life may feel normal for many, but for those affected, the reality is still harsh,” she stated. The home, managed by the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, is a safe space for boys dealing with difficult situations. It has undergone rebuilding before—a response to a fire, only to be affected once more by the hurricane.
Currently, the home aims to raise about $18 million to create a facility that can withstand future storms. The planned upgrades include a reinforced roof and stronger structural supports. Romario Creary, head of currency trading at FX Trader, stressed the importance of their donation as both practical assistance and a show of solidarity. He noted the hurricane’s devastating effects on families and reiterated their commitment to support the boys.
Bishop Leon Golding, who accepted the donation on behalf of the diocese, expressed gratitude, highlighting the significance of this contribution. “To some, it may seem small. But for us, it’s a meaningful step towards a much larger goal,” he said. Golding pointed out that building costs have risen due to new hurricane-resilience standards, requiring updated designs and further planning to ensure safety.
The Clifton Boys’ Home had about 20 boys residing there when the hurricane struck, though it can accommodate 40. Several boys have been temporarily relocated while the rebuilding plans progress. This situation highlights the urgent need to restore the home for full operation.
Golding affirmed the home’s critical role in offering stability and care for boys from challenging backgrounds. “Many of these boys come from unstable homes and rely on strong support systems,” he added. He expressed deep appreciation for the support from FX Trader and the GraceKennedy Financial Group.
According to recent reports, charitable donations like this one are essential in times of crisis. While financial assistance is crucial, emotional and social support also plays a vital role in recovery. Experts emphasize that rebuilding not just physical structures, but communities as a whole, is necessary for long-term resilience.
In the wake of such tragedies, community support can spark a ripple effect, as seen on social media where many have been sharing the stories of the rebuilding efforts, encouraging others to contribute. Aside from monetary gifts, there’s a growing trend of volunteerism in rebuilding efforts, showcasing community solidarity.
This powerful combination of financial and emotional support sets the stage for rebuilding lives and ensuring a better future for the boys at the Clifton Boys’ Home.
