Google App for iOS Phases Out Gemini Feature: What This Means for Users and the New Full App Experience

Google has announced that users on iOS will no longer find the Gemini feature in the main Google app. Instead, they’ll need to switch to the dedicated Gemini app.

Initially, iOS users accessed Gemini through the Google app, which allowed them to toggle between Google Search and Gemini. However, as Google focused on developing Gemini, certain features, including Gemini Live, didn’t make it into the Google app. Gemini officially launched as a standalone app in November.

Recently, Google notified iPhone and iPad users that Gemini is “no longer available” within the Google app.

In a message to users, Google stated, “Gemini is now available as its own app, and that’s now the best place to use Gemini.” This emphasizes that those wanting to continue using Gemini should download the new app from the App Store.

We’re making some changes to create an even better Gemini experience on iOS. Gemini is now available as its own app, and that’s now the best place to use Gemini. To continue using Gemini, download the new Gemini app from the App Store.

With the Gemini app, you’ll have access to all of the same features and more.

Earlier this month, Google removed the switcher for accessing Gemini, but some features still exist in the app under the “More” tab with version 356.0 of the Google app on iOS. Users now see pop-ups encouraging them to download the full Gemini app for iOS.
