Google has just rolled out Loss of Pulse Detection for the Pixel Watch 3 in the US, following its approval from the FDA. This feature was highly anticipated, especially after its earlier release in Europe last year.
To use this feature, ensure your Personal Safety app on the Pixel Watch is updated to the latest version. The most recent update available is 2025.03.19.x. You’ll also need to check your Pixel Watch companion app on your phone, which should be version 3.4 or higher. Then, navigate to Safety & Emergency and select Loss of Pulse Detection to get started.
Loss of Pulse Detection is designed to recognize severe health issues such as cardiac arrest or overdose. If the watch detects a lack of pulse, it will ask if you’re okay. If you don’t respond, it will automatically call emergency services and provide your location along with details about the situation.
This feature uses advanced sensors and an AI-based algorithm to monitor heart activity, making it a useful tool for enhancing personal safety. However, it’s important to note that it’s not foolproof. Google warns that it may not catch every instance of a pulse loss and isn’t intended for individuals with existing heart conditions or those needing constant cardiac monitoring.
