Google Increases Nest Aware Subscription Prices: What You Need to Know!

Google is set to raise prices for its Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions starting in August 2025. The basic Nest Aware service will jump from $8 per month to $10. For those paying annually, the cost will increase from $80 to $100. Meanwhile, Nest Aware Plus will rise from $15 to $20 each month, or from $150 to $200 annually. This change will take effect on the first bill after August 15, 2025.

You can still use Nest devices without a subscription, but your access to saved footage will be limited. With Nest Aware, you get 30 days of event-based video history. Nest Aware Plus doubles that to 60 days, plus the last 10 days of 24/7 footage.

Both subscription plans offer features like:

  • Familiar Faces: Recognizes friends and family.
  • Sound Detection: Alerts you if glass breaks or smoke alarms go off.
  • Emergency Calling: Allows you to contact 911 through the Google Home app.

While price increases can be frustrating, the new fees aren’t far off from competitors. For example, the Ring Home Premium plan costs about $20 per month, while Arlo Plus starts at $7.99 for one camera, increasing with additional cameras.

Interestingly, Google hasn’t disclosed the reason for the price hike. However, a new feature powered by Gemini is being tested in a limited beta. This feature generates more detailed captions for recorded events, enhancing the overall user experience.

In the fast-evolving tech landscape, the demand for smart home security features continues to grow. As of 2022, nearly 34% of U.S. households used smart home devices, reflecting a significant shift in consumer preferences towards advanced home safety solutions. It will be interesting to see how users react to these changes and if they influence their purchasing decisions.
