BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Pittsburg State University men’s golf team wrapped up their second day at the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional at Katke Golf Course on Friday, May 8.
As a team, the Gorillas scored +13 for the day, bringing their total to +41 and placing them in 19th overall. Grand Valley State now leads at -3, while Central Missouri had an impressive performance, moving up to second place at -2.
One standout player was Tyler Hardtarfer, who jumped 32 spots to tie for 38th with a score of +5. He was among just 18 individuals to finish under par that day, marking his 12th round this season of even or better. Mason White scored +3 and tied for 82nd, while Jack Randall ended the day at +4, placing him tied for 87th. David Hobart finished at +7 and is in 103rd, with Cooper Forth closing the team at +15 in a tie for 100th. CJ Phillips from Rogers State leads individually with an impressive -10 score.
The final round wraps up on Saturday morning, May 9. The top three teams and two individual players unattached to advancing teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II Championship from May 18-22 in Boulder City, Nev.
This regional event not only showcases the talent of the players but also spotlights the competitive spirit in college golf today. The pressure can be intense, as players aim not just for personal bests but also to help their teams make it to the championships. In recent years, the talent pool has expanded, making these competitions particularly thrilling to watch.
