The government and oil companies are reassuring everyone that there’s plenty of petrol, diesel, and LPG available in the country. This comes after some people started panic buying due to issues in West Asia.
Officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum are urging everyone to stay calm and not to hoard fuel. They emphasize that reliable information is key.
Sujata Sharma, a joint secretary in the ministry, stated that India has enough refining capacity. She mentioned that the country can refine about 26 crore tonnes of crude oil each year. Despite some reports of long lines at petrol pumps, she emphasized that there’s no shortage of fuel. “Our terminals are well-stocked, and there’s no reason to believe any rumors,” she said.
Interestingly, a survey by the Indian Oil Marketing Association showed that around 70% of people are concerned about fuel shortages during this crisis. This indicates a widespread anxiety that officials are trying to quell.
