Grand Opening Celebration: Discover the New Penn State Health Cancer Center at Hampden Medical Center!

<Penn State Health recently opened the new Cancer Center at Hampden Medical Center in West Shore, a significant step in making cancer care more accessible for local residents. The center will officially welcome patients starting October 27, 2025.

Located on the ground floor of the hospital, this 40,250-square-foot facility combines several services that were previously scattered across different sites. Patients can now find everything from physician appointments to lab services and infusion treatments all in one place. The goal? To streamline care and create a more comfortable environment for those undergoing treatment.

“Expanding cancer care to the West Shore brings world-class healthcare closer to home,” said Dr. Michael Kupferman, CEO of Penn State Health.

The center features a range of services, including medical oncology, radiation therapy, and breast care. It also offers access to education and support programs, as well as opportunities to participate in innovative clinical trials. These trials can provide patients with cutting-edge treatments that may not be widely available.

Dr. Karen Kim, dean of the Penn State College of Medicine, emphasized the center’s dual role as a clinical resource and a hub for research. “Patients will benefit from new therapies emerging from our research efforts,” she noted.

Several practices are also relocating to this new center, enhancing convenience for patients:

• Breast Imaging


• Radiation Oncology


• Medical Oncology

This facility complements Penn State Health’s existing cancer centers located in Hershey and Reading. All three locations share a collaborative approach to develop customized treatment plans for various cancers.

Feedback from the community played a crucial role in the center’s design. Dr. Marc Rovito, vice president of cancer services, said, “We built this center based on what patients wanted—comfort, continuity, and convenience.”

In a recent survey by the American Cancer Society, 70% of cancer patients expressed a strong preference for receiving care close to home. This sentiment underscores the importance of accessible medical resources like the new Cancer Center at Hampden Medical Center. It reinforces the commitment to making high-quality cancer care more reachable for families in the area.
