Grand Opening of UCCU Stadium: A New Era for Utah Valley University Athletics!

UVU Unveils UCCU Stadium: A Game-Changer for Soccer Fans

On a sunny Friday afternoon, Utah Valley University (UVU) celebrated a big milestone with the opening of UCCU Stadium. This impressive $30 million facility, built specifically for soccer, is now seen as one of the best collegiate soccer venues in the nation.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony gathered university leaders, community members, donors, and excited fans. Jared Sumsion, the UVU Director of Athletics, marked this day as not just a new venue but a testament to the university’s growth and dedication.

Reflecting on the past, Sumsion recalled the humble beginnings of Clyde Field, which once boasted chain-link fences and limited seating. “Fifteen years ago, it was just a dream fueled by hope and determination. Today, that dream is our reality,” he said.

A generous $28.5 million donation from Utah Community Credit Union (UCCU) made this project possible—this is the largest single gift in UVU’s history. Sumsion expressed gratitude to UCCU leaders like Justin Olsen and the rest of the board for their unwavering support.

The stadium, designed by Method Studio and built in just 16 months, features an array of fan-friendly amenities. This includes shaded seating, luxury suites, a massive video board, and premier locker rooms that rival those in professional leagues. “When you enter, it really feels like a pro venue,” Sumsion noted.

Both the men’s and women’s soccer coaches see this stadium as a new beginning. Head coach Kyle Beckerman emphasized its importance for the program, while Chris Lemay highlighted it as a strong statement of commitment to soccer in the community.

The first match at UCCU Stadium will take place on August 18, when the UVU women’s team faces off against their in-state rival, Utah. This venue won’t just host regular matches; it will also see events like the 2025 WAC Women’s Soccer Championship.

With this new facility, UVU aims to create unforgettable moments filled with excitement. “This isn’t just about a building—it’s about a new chapter for our sports programs,” Sumsion stated.

As college sports continue to evolve, such investments reflect a growing trend in universities prioritizing athletic facilities. A report from the National Association of College Directors of Athletics shows that campus investments in sports have significantly increased over the years.

In conclusion, UCCU Stadium stands as a powerful symbol of what can happen when communities come together to support their local institutions. It’s more than just a stadium; it’s a place where dreams will take flight. For more details on collegiate sports facility trends, you can check the NCAA’s report.
