Gras Sparks Pirates’ Thrilling Third Place Victory in Florida | Seton Hall University Athletics

DEBARY, FLA. – Amelie Gras, a freshman from Elancourt, France, made an impression at the 2025 Babs Steffens Invitational. She scored an 8-over-par 224, leading the Seton Hall women’s golf team to a solid third-place finish.

Gras had a fantastic tournament, consistently performing well across three rounds. On the final day, she shot a team-best 2-over-par 74, thanks to four birdies. With her total score of 8-over-par (76-74-74), she finished eighth out of 86 players — a personal best for her.

Jillian Fatkin from Queens-Charlotte took home the individual title, finishing at 1-over-par.

As a team, Seton Hall showed they mean business this spring. Their standout moment came in the second round, where they matched their score from the first tournament with a 6-over-par 294. Overall, the Pirates finished the tournament at 47-over-par, with rounds of 312, 294, and 305 for a total of 911.

Stetson hosted the event and secured the top team honors at 12-over-par, while Jacksonville completed the top three at 29-over-par. Notably, Seton Hall’s BIG EAST rival, St. John’s, finished in seventh place at 77-over-par.

Renee Rane, a sophomore from New Delhi, India, performed well too, tying for 16th place overall. She shot her best round on Day 2 with a 1-over-par 73, featuring three birdies and 12 pars. Her overall score was 14-over-par (78-73-79).

Both Ana Sarrias Pro from Cadiz, Spain, and Marta Aguilar from Casares Malaga, Spain, tied for 21st at 16-over-par. Sarrias Pro was steady with scores of 80, 76, and 76, while Aguilar had a remarkable second round with a 1-under-par 71 but struggled in her other rounds, finishing with scores of 79, 71, and 82.

Sophomore Kasumi Tran from Swansea, Wales, finished in a tie for 33rd place, scoring 20-over-par (79-81-76). Competing as an individual, junior Anne-Sofie Ekman from Copenhagen, Denmark, ended with a score of 29-over-par (77-82-86).

Tournament Overview:

The Babs Steffens Invitational took place at the scenic DeBary Golf & Country Club in DeBary, Florida. The course, designed by Lloyd Clifton, is famed for its lush surroundings and challenging layout. It’s a certified bird sanctuary, adding to its charm and beauty. The tournament ran from February 24 to February 25, 2025, on a par-72 course stretching 6,082 yards.

In addition to Seton Hall and Stetson, 13 other teams participated, including Albany, Bucknell, and BIG EAST rival St. John’s.

Teams played five golfers each round, counting the four best scores for their total.

Seton Hall will continue their season soon as they travel to Vero Beach, Florida, for the Northern Kentucky Invitational in two weeks.
