Two LPG carriers, BW TYR and BW ELM, have safely crossed through a tense area and are now heading towards India. They carry nearly 94,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), a crucial energy resource.
The crew celebrated their safe journey with patriotic slogans, thanking the Indian Navy for their escort. Currently, BW TYR is expected to dock in Mumbai on March 31, while BW ELM is on course for New Mangalore, arriving by April 1.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has reassured the public that all Indian vessels and seafarers in the region are secure. There are 18 Indian-flagged ships with 485 sailors still operating in the western Persian Gulf, and they are continually monitored for safety.
In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Shipping has received 92 emergency calls and 120 emails, emphasizing the need for constant communication. So far, they have helped repatriate over 942 Indian seafarers, ensuring their safety amidst ongoing regional tensions.
In recent weeks, Nigeria’s MT Jag Vasant successfully delivered 47,000 metric tons of LPG to the Vadinar Terminal in Gujarat. This vessel will transfer its cargo through a Ship-to-Ship operation, a common practice to handle large shipments efficiently.
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz is vital, as it is a principal route for global oil transport. The recent military conflicts in the region have raised concerns about stability and safe navigation. India’s government has reiterated the urgency of maintaining secure maritime passage through this chokepoint, urging adherence to international law for all parties involved.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs is working closely with international partners to monitor developments, highlighting the importance of safety in maritime trade. Randhir Jaiswal, the ministry’s spokesperson, underscored the need for free navigation as a priority.
