Greenland’s Independence Amid U.S. Interest

Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and fellow party leaders declared, “We don’t want to be Americans, we don’t want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders.”
Trump has repeatedly stated his desire to obtain Greenland, arguing that if the U.S. doesn’t take control, countries like Russia or China might. He implied that there could be serious consequences if the U.S. doesn’t act swiftly, but details were vague.

A 2022 study showed that over 75% of Greenlanders favor maintaining their autonomy, demonstrating a strong desire for self-determination.
