In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Grimes said, “I have tried begging the public and my kids’ dad to keep them offline. I’ve seen young people destroyed by the internet.” She emphasizes her deep concern about their lives being shared publicly.
Grimes believes there should be parental rights protecting kids from unwanted fame. “It’s insane to me that there’s no way to deal with this,” she lamented. “I don’t even trust the law to help me now.”
She shares three children with Musk: X Æ A-XII, 4; Exa Dark Sideræl, 3; and Techno Mechanicus, 1. In a previous revelation, she criticized Musk for bringing X Æ A-XII into the spotlight during a press conference with President Trump. Grimes learned about her son’s appearance through social media after fans alerted her, which only intensified her concerns over privacy.
In February, she addressed her worries during an interview with Time, stating, “I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere. Fame is something you should consent to.” She continues to voice a desire for a safe environment for her children, free from the pressures and scrutiny that come with public life.
Grimes and Musk, who were in a relationship from 2018 to 2022, have recently been involved in legal battles regarding their children’s custody. According to a 2023 survey, many parents share similar worries about their children’s online presence, with 70% fearing potential negative impacts from social media exposure.
Experts in child psychology note that children exposed to fame often struggle with identity and mental health issues later in life. "The pressure of public scrutiny can be overwhelming," says Dr. Linda Hartman, a child psychologist. She emphasizes the importance of parental intervention in shielding children from potential harm.
