Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is making history as India’s first astronaut to visit the International Space Station (ISS). From orbit, he noticed something remarkable: “India looks very big and grand,” he shared during a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Looking down from space, he felt a profound sense of unity: “From up here, there are no borders. We are all part of one humanity.”

With his mission, Shukla serves as an inspiration, especially to the youth. He emphasized the importance of hard work, stating, “The sky is never the limit.” His experience aboard the ISS is not just personal; it represents a collective achievement for India. As he put it, “If you work hard, success will come.”

Shukla is also part of India’s ambitious “Gaganyaan” mission, which is entering its final phase. He mentioned that Indian scientists prepared seven unique experiments for the mission. One experiment focuses on preventing muscle loss in space, which could also benefit the elderly on Earth.

Prime Minister Modi noted the excitement among India’s youth for space exploration, especially after the recent success of the Chandrayaan mission. “Today, children see the sky and believe they can reach it,” he said, urging the country to pursue even higher goals, like landing an Indian astronaut on the Moon.

Adapting to life in space isn’t easy. Shukla shared some of the challenges, like sleeping in zero gravity. Yet he remains focused, using mindfulness techniques to stay calm amid the stress of training and missions.

Interestingly, Shukla brought some Indian sweets with him to share with his fellow astronauts. “They loved the gajar ka halwa and moong dal halwa,” he said, showcasing the richness of Indian cuisine even in space.

In a world that often feels divided, Shukla’s journey highlights our shared humanity. His mission is not only about exploration but also about coming together as one global family.
