Grow Together: Support Fund the Farm for Fresh Food and Community Education

Fund the Farm is a virtual fundraiser happening all February, sponsored by Gerald Subaru North Aurora. It supports Charity Blooms in their mission to provide fresh food to the community.

Charity Blooms is a nonprofit that runs a community garden in Aurora. They grow between 4,000 and 5,000 pounds of chemical-free vegetables each year, helping supply the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry. With hundreds of volunteers, they turn urban space into productive land.

Eva Kiss, Vice President of Charity Blooms, explains, “Fund the Farm will help us offer more free classes. These cooking sessions teach people how to use fresh produce at home, tackling food insecurity through knowledge.” The program empowers the community to make healthier choices by utilizing fresh herbs and vegetables.

Gerald Subaru plays a big role in this fundraiser. They not only sponsor the event but also actively volunteer on the farm. Their commitment boosts community engagement and awareness about fresh food access.

“We are truly thankful for the support from Gerald Subaru,” Kiss added. “Their help has been key to launching this fundraiser.” This year, the first ten donors who give $100 or more will enjoy a special Thank You brunch on May 18 at the farm, featuring dishes made with seasonal ingredients.

Part of the funds will also improve the farm’s electrical system. This upgrade will make watering and heating easier and more efficient. Kiss noted, “We’ve been relying on manual methods for years. Electricity will allow us to use a motorized pump for watering and keep our crops warm during cold days.”
