Gujarat Aims for 100% Railway Electrification: Insights from Union Railway Minister Vaishnaw

AHMEDABAD: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced that Gujarat has reached an impressive 97% electrification of its rail lines. Full electrification will be completed soon.

He emphasized the Centre’s commitment to improving Gujarat’s infrastructure, noting a substantial railway budget of Rs 17,155 crore for the state. In total, there has been an investment of Rs 1.27 lakh crore in modernising Gujarat’s railway system. This investment aims to upgrade services, making travel easier and more efficient for everyone.

During his visit to the Ahmedabad Railway Station, Vaishnaw looked over various redevelopment projects. He mentioned that the station will be redesigned to reflect Ahmedabad’s rich history and culture. “Ahmedabad is a city of great historical and cultural importance,” he stated.

The revamped station will include architectural features inspired by local traditions, such as swinging minarets and a toran entrance gate. Additionally, themes inspired by the city’s famous kite festival will be incorporated, blending heritage with modern design. This project is part of the Prime Minister’s vision to maintain India’s cultural identity while pursuing progress.

Vaishnaw reiterated, “97% of Gujarat’s rail lines are now electrified, and we are on track to reach 100% soon.” This effort not only boosts efficiency but also supports environmental goals by reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
