Hamas Open to Quick Acceptance of Trump’s Gaza Ceasefire Proposal, Insider Reveals to CBS News

Hamas and other Palestinian factions may accept President Trump’s new plan to end the Gaza conflict. They plan to share their response with Egyptian and Qatari mediators soon.

Trump recently introduced a 20-point proposal with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. The key elements of this plan include a ceasefire, releasing hostages, improving humanitarian aid, and transferring control of Gaza to a temporary Palestinian administration led by technocrats, overseen by an international board where Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will play significant roles.

According to reports, Israel would still maintain security around Gaza’s borders. A source indicated that Hamas leaders received this proposal from both an Egyptian official and the Qatari Prime Minister.

The Palestinian Authority (PA), which governs parts of the West Bank, expressed support for the plan. They emphasized the need for U.S. partnership to achieve lasting peace and committed to holding elections within a year after the conflict ends. The PA’s statement highlighted their vision for a modern democratic state focused on peaceful governance.

While the plan doesn’t involve the PA in Gaza’s immediate administration, it suggests that once certain reforms are made, they could reclaim control. Many Muslim-majority countries, including Jordan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, have shown support for Trump’s efforts, believing they can lead to peace.

European Council President Antonio Costa welcomed Netanyahu’s positive stance toward the proposal. The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, noted that any move toward a ceasefire and relief for suffering people is a step in the right direction.

This plan arrives at a critical time, with many desperate for peace after prolonged conflict marked by violence and hardship. Recent surveys suggest that a significant number of people across the region are looking for viable solutions to ensure stability and security. In social media chats, many are cautiously optimistic but also express concern over the plan’s implementation.

As the world watches, the unfolding developments hold the potential to change the trajectory of peace in the region.
