LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team had an intense doubleheader against the Rider University Broncs, splitting the games 6-4 and 13-9 at Sonny Pittaro Field on Saturday.
GAME ONE
- In the third inning, Jeremy Sosa walked, setting the stage for Ryan Lordier to hit a single, putting Sosa at third base.
- Guriyandel Salva then hit a single, scoring Sosa and giving the Jaspers an early lead.
- After Rider equalized, Manhattan had a big sixth inning. Hunter began with a walk, followed by Vincent Samuel who hit an infield single.
- Andreaus Lewis then got the go-ahead run with an RBI single, and Justin Best added a sacrifice fly.
- Finally, Trevor Hansen hit a two-run homer, extending the lead.
- In the ninth, as Rider threatened, Sute hit a crucial double, driving in Lordier.
- Garrett Theile closed the game with a quick three-pitch appearance.
GAME TWO
- The second game started rough for the Jaspers, who gave up six runs early.
- But in the third, they roared back with five runs, thanks to a three-run homer from Hunter Sute.
- Trevor Hansen then walked, scoring Vincent Samuel to narrow the deficit.
- When a wild pitch came into play, Andreaus Lewis scored, bringing the Jaspers closer.
- By the eighth inning, they were down three runs again, but Ryan Lordier brought in a run, followed by a wild pitch that allowed them to score again and tie the game at eight.
- After trading leads, the game ended with a walk-off home run by Rider.
STATISTICS AND NOTES
- In game one, pitcher Hudson Pergamit struck out six batters and only walked two.
- Chris Fidanza earned his second win this season with solid relief work.
- Catcher Hunter Sute shined, going 3-for-8 with four RBIs across both games.
- Infielder Trevor Hansen hit his eighth home run of the season.
- Andreaus Lewis was particularly impressive, going 6-for-9 with a game-tying home run in game three.
