Aeneas Williams Award Highlights 2025 Semifinalists
The Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame has announced the semifinalists for the 4th Annual Aeneas Williams Award. Among the 11 exceptional players recognized is Aaron Harris, a cornerback from North Carolina A&T.
Harris has made quite an impression this season. He leads the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) with an average of 1.50 passes defended per game, placing him fourth nationally. Additionally, he tops his team in pass breakups with 12. His performance highlights his skills and dedication on the field.
The Aeneas Williams Award honors the finest defensive back in HBCU Division I football. It’s a unique recognition based on athletic ability, performance, and character. The award was first introduced in 2022, paying tribute to Aeneas Williams, a former Southern University player who went on to become a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
Williams started as a walk-on defensive back. He left a mark on college football by tying the NCAA Division I-AA single-season interception record before being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals. His NFL journey saw him earn multiple Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl appearance.

As we look ahead, the award committee will announce the finalists on December 2 at 11 a.m. CT. The ultimate winner will be revealed on December 11.
In a recent survey of sports fans, 75% expressed a desire to see more recognition for HBCU athletes in mainstream sports media. This award plays a key role in highlighting their achievements and contributions to the game.
