Harvard Women’s Basketball Set to Face Michigan
Harvard’s women’s basketball team is off to a promising start. After a close 61-56 win against St. John’s, they look forward to a challenge against the 13th-ranked Michigan on Sunday, November 9 at noon ET.
In that season opener, 11 players contributed to the win, highlighting the team’s depth. Karlee White shone brightly, leading with 16 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Other notable performances came from Abigail Wright and Nine Emnace, who added valuable points and defense as well.
Defensively, the Crimson retained their strength, forcing 24 turnovers and recording 14 steals. They also dominated rebounds, collecting 41 to Michigan’s 30, thanks in part to 19 offensive boards.
The season has a special significance as Harvard unveiled a banner in honor of their recent Ivy League Championship—an achievement not celebrated in nearly two decades. They made history by defeating both the second and first seeds in the tournament, showcasing their resilience.
Though Harvard lost standout players Harmoni Turner and Elena Rodriguez, they’re not starting from scratch. With a solid returning lineup and a promising group of five first-years, including top recruit Aubrey Shaw, the team aims to build on last season’s success.
Coach Carrie Moore is in her third season and is already making waves. She’s a finalist for the Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Award and recently became the fastest coach to reach 50 wins in the program’s history.
The upcoming game against Michigan poses another hurdle. Historically, Harvard has struggled against Big Ten teams, sitting at 4-20 overall. Yet, last year saw two significant wins against ranked opponents, signaling a shift.
Fans are buzzing about the team’s potential on social media, with many expressing excitement over the mix of new talent and experienced players. This blend could reshape their future in the league.
As Harvard prepares to take on Michigan, they hope to turn the historical narrative upside down. Their next game will be against the University of Massachusetts on November 11.
