This past weekend, the Harvard women’s hockey team faced tough matchups on their last road trip of the season. They played against Brown and Yale, struggling to find a win.
Harvard vs. Brown
On Friday, Harvard clashed with the Brown Bears in a competitive game in Providence. The first period was intense, with both teams fighting hard but unable to score. Harvard’s freshman goalie, Ainsley Tuffy, had a standout performance, making key saves as the teams battled for puck possession.
In the second period, the action heated up. Brown took control, launching several shots on goal. Their freshman defender, Victoria Damiani, broke the deadlock with a powerful shot from the blue line, putting Brown ahead 1-0 at the end of the period.
Harvard rallied in the third period, despite being heavily outshot. Just 26 seconds in, freshman Ella Lucia was penalized, but the Crimson’s defense held strong during the power play. Soon after, Harvard seized their chance when senior Ellie Bayard scored, tying the game at 1-1.
With just two minutes left, Brown scored again, pushing Harvard to pull Tuffy in a last-ditch effort to even the score. Unfortunately, the Bears sealed the game with an empty-net goal, ending with Brown on top, 3-1.
Harvard vs. Yale
On Saturday, Harvard faced Yale in another fierce rivalry. The atmosphere was electric as Yale celebrated senior day. The first two periods remained scoreless, with both teams battling hard. Harvard’s defense proved strong, blocking numerous shots, while Yale managed to fend off a couple of power plays from the Crimson.
In the third period, Yale’s captain, Anna Bargman, broke through, scoring the first goal of the game. Despite a solid performance from Harvard’s goalie Emily Davidson, who made 29 saves, Yale quickly netted two more goals, leaving Harvard trailing 3-0.
Despite their efforts, Harvard couldn’t find the back of the net, and the game ended with a disappointing score of 3-0 in favor of Yale.
As the Crimson prepare for their final weekend of regular season games, they’ll aim to upset two top teams: No. 10 Clarkson and No. 7 St. Lawrence. They’ve shown potential this season, supported by strong goaltending and standout players like Gabi Davidson-Adams and Ella Lucia, who have contributed significantly to the team’s offensive efforts.
Though the season has been challenging with only two wins so far, Harvard is determined to find their rhythm and build momentum before they head into the postseason.
